side banner After their beginner course many archers are left wondering "where do I go now?".

To continue shooting you must have proper insurance.  Club
insurance covers you while on a beginners' course.  After the course, insurance is normally arranged by joining the club as a full member (or another archery club if you don't get along with us).  Our club is affiliated to GNAS and the county archery association and insurance is provided through them.

On completing your course you should have all the basic skills and understanding to shoot safely and "reasonably" accurately.  The only thing you will now lack is your own bow and arrows.  Club equipment may be available to you for a short while, but all members are expected to obtain their own equipment sooner rather than later.  The choice is now yours as to what bow type and styles of archery appeal to you.

Typically, you will have used a recurve bow during your beginner course, if you have enjoyed shooting recurve you may want to continue with it, perhaps adding a sight, but you may prefer more traditional archery and want to shoot longbow, other archers may be lured by the wonders of the compound bow.  Check out our "ABOUT BOWS" section for  more information, but also ask your coach as they can provide much more specific advice than we can reasonably fit on our web-pages.

Whatever bow you choose to adopt, you will find that the learning process is by no means over.  A lifetime of perfecting your technique awaits you, to say nothing of getting the best from your bow, arrows and other equipment.  Fear not, you can always get good advice by talking to your coach.  Just because your beginner session has finished it does not mean that your coach thinks his job is done.  All the coaches at the club (and indeed all the club members) are very approachable and happy to chat with you about bows, equipment and technique.  We all have a passion for archery and that extends to our newer members.  We were all new to the sport at one time so it's only natural that we would want to give some help to those just starting out in the sport.
